The Goblin's Cry 2019

Launched on Friday 1st March 2019 at the National Gallery of Australia, The Goblin’s Cry brought a strong female gaze to the romanticised works featured within Love and Desire: Masterpieces of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood on loan from the TATE.

This collection continues to explore NICOL & FORD’s interests in revisionist queer histories through the lens of material, literary and performative culture. Focusing on the life of Victorian poet, Christina Rossetti (younger sister of Pre-Raphaelite artist, Dante Gabriel Rossetti), The Goblin’s Cry delves deep into emerging female same-love and its poetic traditions toward the end of the Nineteenth Century.

The launch of the collection was accompanied by a staged immersive installation, performed by a set of Sydney’s emerging creative professionals including celebrated young drag queens, artists, sculptors, designers, illustrators, writers, photographers and academics.
